Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup
Help us clean-up the entrance to Devil’s Lake State Park! Join us for our spring highway clean-up. Meet at the Steinke Basin parking lot. Bring work gloves if you have them; we’ll provide the bags and trash grabbers.
Members Only Geology Tour
Join the Friends of Devil’s Lake and park naturalist Sue Johansen-Mayoleth for a Friends of Devil’s Lake members only geology tour of the East Bluff.
Find out fun and interesting facts about what makes Devil’s Lake rocks rock! We’ll spend the morning hiking the scenic east bluff and checking out some of the park’s famous rock formations. This hike will be about 3.5-miles and is best for adults and children ages 10 and older. Meet at the North Shore Visitor Center.
Bring your walking shoes and water! Participation is limited to 20 people. Registration is required. Please register here.

Birds & Bagels
All you need is a comfortable lawn chair, a pair of binoculars, and a Thermos of your favorite coffee for this morning bird watch. We’ll “park” our lawn chair near the parking lot in Steinke Basin and watch for meadow larks, sandhill cranes, red-winged black birds, and much more as we indulge ourselves with a morning of birding. Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking Lot.
Bring binoculars if you have them, but no worries if you don't - we'll have some available for use. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Beginners welcome! If you don’t have your own Thermos of coffee, we’ll provide refreshments.
This event is free but vehicle admission to the state park is required.

Swing your partner to the tunes of the Big Band Era at the Red Oak Shelter on the South Shore of Devil’s Lake State Park. Live dance music is provided by All That Jazz. Dance lessons from the local swing dance club are available from 6:30 - 7 pm before the event kicks off at 7 pm. Come solo or bring your partner. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park.
A $15 per person donation is suggested.

Members-Only Moonlit Kayak
Bring your own kayak, canoe or boat to participate or borrow a kayak from the Chateau. Make sure to bring a headlamp or flashlight with you as well! Space is limited to 20 participants and you’ll need to register for the event (sign-up coming soon). Only those who have registered will be able to attend. This program is best for adults and children 10 and older. Meet at the North Shore boat launch.

Devil's Challenge Triathlon
The Devil’s Challenge Triathlon closes out the Wisconsin Tri Series! This scenic sprint tri in the middle of September is the perfect way to finish up your racing season. After a 1/4-mile swim in Devil’s Lake, challenge yourself with a hilly 15-mile bike ride through the beautiful Baraboo bluffs and a 5K run through the quiet park roads of Devil’s Lake State Park.
The Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park is the designated charity for the event.

Ice Age Trail Hike & Meet-Up
Want a great way to see all Devil’s Lake has to offer? Join the Friends of Devil’s Lake, Devil’s Lake State Park Naturalist, and the Ice Age Trail Alliance Baraboo Hills / Heritage Chapter to hike the Devil’s Lake Segment!
On this hike, you’ll hike about 10 miles of the Ice Age Trail. Meet at the Nature Center and start the hike with the West Bluff, working east. This hike is difficult – attendees will be hiking up and down bluffs, walking on uneven ground, and up and down staircases.
Pack a lunch and bring some snacks and plenty of water. You will have a chance to fill up water bottles at both the North and South Shore Day use areas. We’ll stop for lunch and make snack stops, too.
If you’re up for an adventure, this is the hike for you! This hike is best for adults and teenagers.
This is an official Mammoth Hike Challenge event! Earn the miles on the hike, along with 5 bonus miles. After the hike, join us at the Tumbled Rock Brewery for an Ice Age Trail hiker meet-up! Look for the Friends of Devil’s Lake banner.
Even if you don’t join the hike, you’re invited to join us at the brewery for a beverage and conversation about being an IAT thru-hiker.
Ice Age Trail Hiker Meet-Up
Are you interested in thru-hiking the Ice Age Trail? Are you a thru-hiker willing to share your story? Do you just love the Ice Age Trail or hiking? And, are you interested in connecting with other wannabe thru-hikers and IAT lovers? If you said yes, then join us at this hiker meet-up!
The Friends, the Park Naturalist, and the Ice Age Trail Alliance Baraboo Hills Chapter are leading a 10-mile hike earlier in the day. Immediately following the hike, we’ll reconvene at Tumbled Rock Brewery, just down the road from Devil’s Lake State Park. Join us for the hike, or just for the meet-up.

On the north shore of Devil’s Lake, our Halloween Extravaganza is an all-ages, all-abilities afternoon of spooky fun with activities for the whole family!

For extra fun: kids of ALL ages are invited to wear your costume!

First Day Hike
Start the new year with a refreshing jaunt outside!
Wisconsin State Parks is once again hosting First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day! These hikes offer visitors an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenated and connected with nature. This year at Devil’s Lake, we are going to take a twilight hike/snowshoe through Steinke Basin. This will be around a 2-mile hike on an uneven trail. Dress warm and bring a flashlight and your snowshoes (if we have snow). We’ll also have snowshoes to loan. This program is for everyone, and we ask you to leave your dogs at home for this hike. Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking Lot along highway DL. No RSVP required.

Native Arts and Culture of Teewakącąk: Ho-Chunk Dance

Join us for an event that embraces the arts and culture of the Tee Wákąčąk & the Ho-Chunk people.
Elliott Funmaker, Sr. (Ho-Chunk) and his group will provide a family-friendly cultural performance featuring the music and dance of the Ho-Chunk Nation. Elliott will also explain the symbolism and meaning of objects such as the drum and regalia worn by each dancer. Join us for this authentic cultural arts presentation that showcases the original inhabitants of the area including Tee Wákąčąk (Ho-Chunk place name meaning Sacred Lake) renamed to Devil’s Lake. This program was made possible by an Incentive Grant from The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks and funding provided by The Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park, The Little Eagle Arts Foundation, and the Sauk County Arts, Humanities, and Historic Preservation grant.

Join us to engage and enjoy in the art and culture of the area’s Indigenous peoples.
The land called Tee Wakącąk contains numerous sacred sites known as effigy mounds that are found throughout the park. Rob Nurre is a historian and former president of the WI Archaeology Society. He will guide participants in respectfully engaging with these sacred sites and creating a lasting memory of their experience. We have partnered with Carla Weissing and her team at Kingfisher Yoga to offer yoga classes for anyone interested in starting the day with a good stretch, a moment of relaxation and centering your mind and body to conquer the day ahead.
We will practice a vinyasa flow, connecting breath and movement. We usually have a great mix of locals from Baraboo, Merrimac, Sauk Prairie and Wisconsin Dells, along with a number of folks visiting the area for the day or the weekend.
WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear clothing you feel comfortable and unrestricted in. We practice outside in the elements (whatever they are!), so consider bringing layers so you can adjust if conditions are outside your expectations or you get warm during practice.
WHAT TO BRING
If you have a mat or beach towel, bring it otherwise we have a few mats on hand for you to use.. Please bring a water bottle and perhaps a hand towel.

Please wear clothing you feel comfortable and unrestricted in. We practice outside in the elements (whatever they are!), so consider bringing layers so you can adjust if conditions are outside your expectations or you get warm during practice.
WHAT TO BRING
If you have a mat or beach towel, bring it otherwise we have a few mats on hand for you to use.. Please bring a water bottle and perhaps a hand towel.
WHERE WE PRACTICE
Classes are held at the South Shore lawn of Devil’s Lake State Park (GPS coordinates). Specifically, look for a group of people located on the shore as you head towards the main trailhead area near the railroad tracks. If it’s raining, we will relocate to a shelter, if one is not being used.
WHO MAY JOIN
Everyone and anyone interested in yoga is welcome! No experience necessary and keep in mind, if you have a body, you have a yoga body. Many folks who attend are visiting from afar, while others are locals who practice with us regularly.

Join us at the Roadkill Café to make some delicious memories over the campfire with your family.
We will have ingredients for you to cook up some delicious before-bedtime snacks. We will provide the fire and ingredients; you bring the fun and your sense of adventure!
