      Adopt-A-Highway Clean-up
Help us take care of our Adopt-A-Highway segment!
Please meet us at Steinke Basin parking lot at 9am. We provide bags, grabbers, safety vests, safety glasses and snacks. Volunteers should come with gloves and adequate footwear. We will divide into groups, with 2 or 3 people for each road section.

Calling all Madison area Friends and wanna-be-Friends! Come join us at Delta Beer Lab to meet other Friends of Devil’s Lake and learn more about how to get involved with the organization.       Halloween Extravaganza!
Join us for our annual Halloween Extravaganza!
On the north shore of Devil’s Lake, our Halloween Extravaganza is an all-ages, all-abilities afternoon of spooky fun with activities for the whole family!
4-6 p.m.: Pumpkin carving and kid’s crafts
6-8 p.m.: Torchlit hike, campfire, s’mores, and costume parade
For extra fun: kids of ALL ages are invited to wear your costume!
Participation in the activities is free, donations are welcome!
 
        
      
      Native Arts and Culture of Teewakącąk: Ho-Chunk Dance
Native Arts and Culture of Teewakącąk: Ho-Chunk Dance
Friday, August 29, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Join us for an event that embraces the arts and culture of the Tee Wákąčąk & the Ho-Chunk people.
Elliott Funmaker, Sr. (Ho-Chunk) and his group will provide a family-friendly cultural performance featuring the music and dance of the Ho-Chunk Nation. Elliott will also explain the symbolism and meaning of objects such as the drum and regalia worn by each dancer. Join us for this authentic cultural arts presentation that showcases the original inhabitants of the area including Tee Wákąčąk (Ho-Chunk place name meaning Sacred Lake) renamed to Devil’s Lake. This program was made possible by an Incentive Grant from The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks and funding provided by The Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park, The Little Eagle Arts Foundation, and the Sauk County Arts, Humanities, and Historic Preservation grant.
Location: Meet behind Rock Elm Shelter on the park’s North Shore, near the North Shore Boat Launch. Your own blanket and/or chairs are encouraged!

Celebrating 100 Years of the Chateau: Learn About Its History
Did you miss the talk about the history of the Devil’s Lake Chateau earlier this summer? Don't worry, we’ve invited Paul Wolter back for an encore!
Celebrating 100 Years is a short talk about the history and architecture of the Chateau from Paul Wolter, Executive Director of the Sauk County Historical Society. This presentation is free! It will be held inside the Chateau.
 
        
      
      Devil's Challenge Triathlon
The Devil’s Challenge Triathlon closes out the Wisconsin Tri Series! This scenic sprint tri in the middle of September is the perfect way to finish up your racing season. After a 1/4-mile swim in Devil’s Lake, challenge yourself with a hilly 15-mile bike ride through the beautiful Baraboo bluffs and a 5K run through the quiet park roads of Devil’s Lake State Park.
The Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park is the designated charity for the event.

Native Arts and Culture of Teewakącąk (Ho-Chunk): Effigy Mounds - Sacred Sites and Native Arts
Thursday, September 11, 2 – 4 p.m.
Join us to engage and enjoy in the art and culture of the area’s Indigenous peoples.
The land called Tee Wakącąk contains numerous sacred sites known as effigy mounds that are found throughout the park. Rob Nurre is a historian and former president of the WI Archaeology Society. He will guide participants in respectfully engaging with these sacred sites and creating a lasting memory of their experience. We have partnered with Carla Weissing and her team at Kingfisher Yoga to offer yoga classes for anyone interested in starting the day with a good stretch, a moment of relaxation and centering your mind and body to conquer the day ahead.
We will practice a vinyasa flow, connecting breath and movement. We usually have a great mix of locals from Baraboo, Merrimac, Sauk Prairie and Wisconsin Dells, along with a number of folks visiting the area for the day or the weekend.
WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear clothing you feel comfortable and unrestricted in. We practice outside in the elements (whatever they are!), so consider bringing layers so you can adjust if conditions are outside your expectations or you get warm during practice.
WHAT TO BRING
If you have a mat or beach towel, bring it otherwise we have a few mats on hand for you to use.. Please bring a water bottle and perhaps a hand towel.
WHERE WE PRACTICE
Classes are held at the South Shore lawn of Devil’s Lake State Park (GPS coordinates). Specifically, look for a group of people located on the shore as you head towards the main trailhead area near the railroad tracks. If it’s raining, we will relocate to a shelter, if one is not being used.

Sayokla Kindness (Oneida) is an award-winning bead artist and a water protector. She will share her knowledge of the use of beads amongst Native peoples paired with her commitment to the environment.       Big Band at the Lake
Swing your partner to the tunes of the Big Band Era at the Red Oak Shelter on the South Shore of Devil’s Lake State Park. Live dance music is provided by All That Jazz. Dance lessons from the local swing dance club are available from 6:30 - 7 pm before the event kicks off at 7 pm. Come solo or bring your partner. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park.
A $10 per person donation is suggested.

Join the group from the Raptor Education Group, Inc. (REGI) to meet some of Wisconsin’s common, but rarely encountered birds. Discover what a raptor is, hear their stories and learn what you can do to ensure they remain a significant part of the ecosystem.
